Jarir district or Jarir Street? A note before you book

It is easy to mix the two up: there is a “Jarir Street” running through Al Malaz, lined with offices, which is not the same as Jarir district. Jarir district is a residential area that property portals file under central Riyadh, within the Al Malaz sub-municipality; streets that appear in its housing listings include Al Jabbani, Ibn Allan As Siddiqi and Abi Al Haram Al Katib.

The confusion does not affect the service — we cover both the district and Jarir Street in Al Malaz. It does affect the booking, though: send your map pin rather than just writing “Jarir”, so the driver does not end up at the wrong address.

Small flats in Jarir: a visit sized to the job

There is no sense in a studio tenant paying for eight hours. In a studio, two hours is usually enough to sweep and mop, clean the bathroom, wash up, wipe the kitchenette counter and straighten the bed and clothes. Add washing and ironing and you will want three or four hours.

For a two-bedroom flat, four hours is the usual yardstick: kitchen, living room, both bedrooms and bathrooms, plus a load of laundry and any ironing needed. Switches and handles: the details everyone forgets

In a small flat, hands land on the same surfaces dozens of times a day: the light switch by the door, the door handle, the old intercom handset in older buildings, the kitchen buttons and the fridge handle. These spots rarely look dirty, yet they are the main way germs pass between people at home, especially in cold-and-flu season.

Moving out of — or into — a rented flat

Because so many Jarir flats and studios are rented, we often get asked to clean a flat on the way out, before the keys go back to the landlord, or on the way in before unpacking. What the maid does not do

An hourly maid does not cook meals, though she will wash up and help prepare ingredients. She does not look after a child or elderly person on her own — they stay in their family’s care. She does not lift heavy furniture or clean façades or windows from the outside on upper floors. We prefer a woman of the family to be in the flat during the visit.

Before the maid reaches your building

Domestic-worker regulations do not allow a maid’s sponsor to put her to work in other people’s homes; the fine for doing so goes up to SAR 20,000. Hiring or giving shelter to anyone who breaks residency and labour rules is punishable by fines reaching SAR 100,000 and as long as six months behind bars.
